Sarah J. Giles Middle School Texas City ISD | Texas City, TX
Texas City ISD is addressing the needs of the students and staff of Sarah J. Giles Middle School with a new campus on a new site. This sixth, seventh and eighth grade campus will replace the facilities that were damaged during Hurricane Harvey and will be located on the corner of Monticello Drive and Vauthier Street.
The 26 acre vacant site is located in Texas City and will host a competition track and field, grandstands and detention pond that will be required for the new development. The design process consisted of participation with the faculty and staff of Sarah J. Giles Middle School along with the administration of Texas City ISD. The collaboration addressed security, the number of stories, circulation, adjacencies of different curriculum spaces and opportunities for flexible learning outside of the classroom. The school is designed for an optimum capacity of 830 students with the opportunity to grow on the site. The site itself produced some challenges such as vehicular and pedestrian access to the site and flood mitigation which are still being evaluated and developed.
+ Master planning was completed by IBI Group for this district.
“This two-story campus will serve as a great addition to the community and will prepare future students to enter into the next level of their academic journey.”
