Nederland High School Nederland ISD | Nederland, TX
With an anticipated completion date of July 2023, Nederland High School will welcome 1,700 students to a brand new facility that will replace the existing high school from the 1970’s. The new high school will be located behind the existing Performing Arts Center due to site constraints. Throughout construction, the existing high school will continue to remain operational in order to not disrupt the school year.
As part of a districtwide improvement plan, community involvement was critical for this project. Community members were involved in both the bond planning process as well as the design phase which included intensive programming workshops. Multiple program and planning meetings were held with Nederland ISD administration and teachers. Safety and security in the new building was established as a priority by all stakeholders and acts as a strong influence in the design.
Nederland High School will provide classrooms, advanced technology, labs and CTE spaces to meet the needs of today’s high school students. The two-story building is designed to improve traffic flow and increase natural lighting. The library and cafeteria are centrally located with an exterior plaza that provides a place for students to safely socialize and learn in an outdoor-friendly space.
“The teacher shouldn’t be the teacher; the teacher should be the facilitator of learning. We’re keeping that philosophy in mind while building the new high school.”
—Dr. Stuart Kieschnick, Superintendent, Nederland ISD
